DIY Tjanpi Basket
Doc. Choc here. It strikes me as a possibility, given that I only made six boxes of Tjanpi Eggs, that some people may miss out... Whoopsies. The next minimum order on the packaging (that I designed!) was a whopping 200 units, and I wasn't quite ready to commit to that. So I thought why not give you the chance to craft a basket yourself!
This Tjanpi Learn to Weave Kit includes everything that you'll need to produce a basket yourself. The raffia, a needle, and the all important instructions.
I could write endlessly about the significance of basket weaving and how you might enjoy it; but honestly, I don't feel it's my place. I'm here to connect you to Tjanpi, to some new ideas, and let you find the way yourself.
I might change my mind on that. For now though, you can Learn more about Tjanpi here.
Who are the Tjanpi Desert Weavers?
The Tjanpi Desert Weavers is a truly awe-inspring social enterprise from the NPY Women’s Council.
Representing over 400 Anagu and Yarnangu Female Artists from 26 remote communities in the Central and Western desert regions. An area stretching 350’000 square km’s across the WA, NT, and SA border region.
A basket that holds the shared stories, skills and experiences of generations of mothers, daughters, aunties, sisters and grandmothers that form the bloodline of the desert weaving phenomenon.
